She has tried hundreds of bench and jury trials for all types of charges, ranging from reckless driving to murder. She has also successfully litigated numerous motions to suppress and dismiss based on various constitutional grounds.

Mackenzie is a native of Chesterfield County and graduate of the University of South Carolina and the Rutgers University School of Law. Mackenzie was admitted to practice in Virginia and New Jersey in 2006, and served as law clerk to the Honorable Robert W. Page in the Superior Court of Camden, New Jersey.

She began her legal career as an assistant public defender for the City of Richmond, where she trained and supervised a number of attorneys and handled a wide variety of criminal cases, including traffic matters, drug offenses, property crimes, and juvenile delinquency matters. She served as Deputy Public Defender and robbery specialist by the time she left that office to join the law firm of Bowen, Champlin & Foreman. She also served as Deputy Public Defender in Chesterfield and was instrumental in helping to build that office from the ground up, establish a working relationship with the Courts and other community stakeholders, and hire and train staff. She directly supervised all attorneys assigned to the criminal rotation in General District Court and handled the most serious cases to which the Chesterfield Public Defender’s Office was appointed.

Mackenzie is known for building quality relationships with her clients, and she cares about obtaining positive results. She is well-regarded by both her colleagues and opposing counsel and is known as a passionate advocate for her clients.
